The WTG is about celebrating life!
To meet and be inspired from other persons in a similar situation is a good way of getting well faster. Everyone participating in the World Transplant Games has their own unique story to tell and their own unique experiences. To share is to understand.
A successful organ transplant almost always leads to a normal life and the possibility to take up the activities one participated in before the illness.
Sports are also a very good way of coming back and to measure your strength against other transplant athletes is a rush, however always with a gleam in the eye and a lot of laughter.
Another side of the WTG is to put a focus on the transplant situation in the arranging country. The host country arranges symposiums, lectures and meetings for the patients, medical profession and the press. It is also a way to make donors and donor families more visible. The transplant situation is not only about receiving but also giving an organ.
Receiving an organ from another person is something very special. It's not just another gift, it's the gift of life.
